Update

The International Fragrance Association (IFRA) published the Notification Letter related to the 49^th Amendment to the IFRA Code of Practice. The numerous requirements of this Amendment will be enforced on January 10^th, 2020. All fragrances will have to comply with the 49^th IFRA Amendment within 25 months.

Although IFRA Standards are self-regulation, the European Authorities consider that compliance with IFRA Standards is a prerequisite to fulfill Article 3 of the European Cosmetics Regulation. Therefore, we encourage you to contact your fragrance suppliers and ensure that this aspect is secured without undue delay.

Publication of the 49^th Amendment

This week, the International Fragrance Association (IFRA) published the End of Consultation Letter related to the 49^th Amendment to the IFRA Code of Practice. The list of the 125 new and revised IFRA standards is available in the annex of the Consultation Letter.

The impact of this amendment on the fragrance industry is massive and, for this reason, IFRA decided to grant special transition periods:

• 13 months for new creations of fragrance compounds
• 25 months for the reformulation of existing fragrance compounds

These deadlines start to run at the date the Notification Letter is published. The Notification Letter is published within 8 weeks following the End of Consultation Letter.

From February 2022, BIORIUS will require IFRA Certificates complying with the 49^th Amendment for all fragrances and aromas.
