Gluten and Soy-Free Certifications

Biorius developed Gluten and Soy-Free Cosmetic Certifications: ‘Gluten-Free’ and ‘Soy-Free’ certified products are everywhere and are most often seen in the food industry. However, today there is a growing demand for these types of certified products in the cosmetics industry as well.

‘Gluten-Free’ or ‘Soy-Free’ marketing communications include labels on cosmetics, as they highlight necessary information for specific groups of consumers. This certification helps people who are gluten/soy intolerant or have coeliac disease make well-informed decisions when selecting a cosmetic product.

BIORIUS’ ‘Gluten-Free’ certification is a trustworthy designation issued by independent third-party experts, ensuring that the product does not contain any wheat, rye, oats, barley or any other form of gluten, while BIORIUS’ “Soy-Free” certification ensures that no soy exists in the final product.

Indicating that your cosmetic product does not contain gluten or soy in its formulation can be particularly helpful for your brand and/or consumers, depending on your product type.

Ingesting small amounts is quite common when using oral care cosmetic products such as toothpastes and mouthwashes, protective products such as lip balms and beauty products such as lipsticks. For a person suffering from celiac disease, a visible gluten-free certification makes it much easier to identify acceptable products. Knowing that the product does not contain any ingredients or extracts with traces of gluten helps prevent the risk of adverse effects in sensitive individuals.

Gluten and Soy-Free Certifications criteria

Gluten-Free

Biorius certifies the absence of gluten in the final product based on standards established in Regulations EC No 41/2009 and FDA (§ 101.91 (21 CFR 101.91)) regarding the composition and labeling of food products that are suitable for those intolerant to gluten.
Our experts evaluate the documentation of each raw material in your cosmetic product and calculate the presence of any ingredients or extracts containing gluten. A total quantity is then specified at the end of the evaluation.
Cosmetics can only be claimed as ‘Gluten-Free’ if the traces of gluten do not exceed 20 ppm in the final product.

Soy-Free

Biorius certifies the absence of soy in your final product.
Our experts evaluate the documentation of each raw material in your cosmetic product and calculate the presence of any ingredients or extracts containing soy.

Certification logo and validity

By fulfilling the ‘Gluten free’ and/or ‘Soy-free’ certifications, the brand receives:

  • a signed certificate
  • the right to use the BIORIUS’ logos on the label of the certified cosmetic products.

These certifications remain valid as long as the composition of the cosmetic product does not change.
